Joel H. Mark began as a chemist. It is this
analytical background and extreme attention to
detail that lends a unique angle to the detail
that people see in his work.Intuition plays a
strong roll in the artist's approach, as he
wants to create a piece that allows viewers to
bring their own experience and thoughts to his
work. "It's part of the reason I don't name
anything," says Joel. "I want people to see my
work and embrace any feelings that come up. I
want them to be so moved that they say that they
have to own the piece "
His formal study began at the Institute of
Design in Chicago, and he went on to hone his
craft at the nationally recognized program at
Orange Coast College, Costa Mesa, California.
His work has appeared in numerous publications
including West Hollywood Magazine, Santa Monica
Magazine, Santa Monica Business magazine,
Downbeat and LA Reader. You may have heard about
his recent showings at Bakery Art Exhibitions
(The Jazz Bakery, Los Angeles, California),
which allowed patrons to view his music and
architectural pieces.
